    Murder with Bengali Characteristics Comment

    1. Good to read a dystopian book with contemporary characters With lots of wit and funny episodes one can find tickles funny bones.

    2. The story is set is a not so distant Dystopian future 2035 where China is all powerful and has taken Bengal under it s ever expanding wing The book starts with Inspector Li Chinese investigating the murder of a seemingly harmless local icon who actually spends time teaching the Bengali children The clue lead Inspector Li to believe that it was a hired hit, done by thugs and he sets out to find out why And of course, whom But the why is important here Then we meet Mr.Agarwal and Mr.Verma, two un [...]

    3. Shovon Chowdhury s Murder with Bengali Characteristics wears a spectacular jacket In the dark it glows In the light it reminds you of Mithun da s hero uniform, but that could be because there s Bengali on the cover and fish all around it The red could also signify a certain political party, or bloody murder which follows close on political heels, especially if we are to believe what the blurb says about the story Books like Murder with Bengali Characteristics are rare They fool you with the fun [...]

    4. the excessive use of expletives throughout bring only the following words to mind this was a dick of a book the only theme throughout was the bashing of Bengali eloquence with no flow in the continuity of chapters or character development all around thumbs down

    5. Completed this book today Kept me up during exams This is a murder mystery like none other Keeping in sync with the previous book, this builds up a wonderful plot, a murder mystery, a brewing revolution, in this propaganda driven, post colonial and again colonized, war torn, dystopian India Like The Competent Authority, the book is witty, its heavily critical, over the edge satirical, but unlike that book, Shovon wrote a much detailed, dense story He nailed the act of appropriating Dystopia for [...]

    6. More Chinese than Bengali, this is a hilarious, sharp satire that is a worthy follower to The Competent Authority Set in the future, the book has some memorable characters and very recognisable caricatures, and actually made me laugh out loud so many times Immensely enjoyable and absolutely recommended The stunning cover itself is enough reason to pick up your copy, take it home and devour it immediately.

    7. Murder With Bengali Characteristics excels in its comic timings, and one chief reason for this is its characters, or to be appropriate, caricatures There are people we can relate to in real life, like Pishi and Bijli Bose, who are political rivals just like their real life counterparts. To read the full review, go to bit 1CA9dWp.

    8. An interesting book where I found the setting and the backdrop of the narrative interesting than the narrative itself Detailed review can be found at mahabore.wordpress 2015 0

    9. As a western reader I found this a very accessible read, despite a lot of local slang. The author has played a very interesting trick, in that it actually feels to be a book about the contradictions inherent in the ruling class of contemporary China than about India Bengal itself.
